Andy Harvey’s leadership experience covers both military and law enforcement professions. As a speaker and executive trainer, Harvey has trained many leaders around the state in leadership, community relations, and media relations.

At the age of 37 and after having a distinguished military career with over 20 years of service, Harvey retired to focus more on his law enforcement profession.

Prior to his military retirement, Harvey served as the First Sergeant over the 136th Mission Support Group at Carswell Naval Air Station, Ft. Worth Texas. He was responsible for over 400 enlisted members, including handling issues such as promotion and discipline, and ensuring members were operationally prepared.

His major role, however, was to serve as the advisor to the Commander on all enlisted issues. Harvey led in crisis in two different occasions; in Kuwait at the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and in New Orleans just days after the destruction of Hurricane Katrina.

During his enlistment, Harvey attended several military academies, including the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy at McGhee Tyson Air Base in Tennessee and the First Sergeant Academy at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Harvey earned the Distinguished Graduate Award and the coveted Commandant’s Leadership Award, respectively.

Harvey currently serves on the Dallas Police Department Command Staff as a Police Major assigned to the Northwest Patrol Division. His leadership assignments include investigations, community policing, patrol, and media relations.

As a Patrol Watch Commander, then Lt. Harvey implemented a policing model that places high value in team member’s contributions, promotes problem solving, excellent customer service, a heightened sense of responsibility, and in developing team members’ ability to see and understand the big picture. As the Media Relations Commander, he implemented several programs, including the creation of social networking services and a web video series called First Watch, both in English and Spanish. This has proven to be successful with over 25,000 followers and still growing. Major Harvey has been interviewed on local, national, and international news programs, both in English and Spanish.

Harvey’s first language, Spanish, has given him the ability to reach out and speak directly to the ever growing Latino communities. He graduated from the University of North Texas with a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. Harvey is also a graduate of the Leadership Command College in Huntsville, Texas, the Caruth Police Institute in Dallas, Texas, and ILEA Police School of Supervision in Plano, Texas.
