Boerne, Texas Seeks City Manager
Nestled in the Texas Hill Country on IH-10 and part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Area, Boerne (pronounced "Bernie"), is one of the State’s most desirable, livable and rapidly growing cities. It is the county seat of Kendall county, which is the nation’s seventh-fastest growing county. Boerne is home to 16,076 residents who enjoy great connectivity, a thriving local economy, abundant cultural and entertainment amenities, and stellar schools.
Boerne has been a home rule city with a council-manager form of government since 1995. The City Council is composed of five Council members, elected from s ingle-member districts, and the Mayor, who is elected at-large, all serving staggered two-year terms. A professional City Manager is hired by the Council to manage the day-to-day operations of the City. The City of Boerne is a full-services municipality with an annual budget of $82,558,562, some 276 full-time employees, and 29 part-time seasonal employees. Ron Bowman, whose upcoming retirement has necessitated this Search, is the only City Manager that Boerne has ever had.
The City of Boerne seeks a new City Manager that will be an active, assertive, entrepreneurial, visionary but grounded “Servant Leader” who respects Boerne’s historic Hill Country character and small-town charm while simultaneously positioning the City for growth and transformation. The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university. A master’s degree is preferred. At least seven years of progressively responsible municipal government operations experience, including five or more years of experience as a City Manager or Assistant City Manager, is required. Experience managing transformative, rapidly growing cities with expanded service menus and high customer service expectations is preferred. Experience managing cities with electricity distribution service is desirable. The starting salary range for this position is $185,000-$225,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
