Miami, Oklahoma Seeks City Manager

The City of Miami, the “Gateway” to Oklahoma, is in the northeast corner of the state at the confluence of the Neosho and Spring rivers. Miami is located along Interstate 44, about an hour drive to the Tulsa International airport. The City of Miami is the county seat for Ottawa County and has a current population of 13,758 within its 9.8 square-miles.

The City of Miami functions with a council-manager form of government.  The Miami City Council is made up of the Mayor and four Council members.  The City Council appoints a professional City Manager who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the City.

The ideal candidate will possess advanced interpersonal skills and be an excellent communicator and presenter. The selected individual will be passionate about building and maintaining relationships with residents, community leaders, business owners, and City staff members.

A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible city management or related management experience, as well as budget administration experience is required. Union contract negotiation and management experience is highly desired. A master’s degree in public administration, business administration, or JD in law is preferred. Water, sewer, and electric utility experience is a plus.

The starting salary will be in the $100,000 to $120,000 range, depending on qualifications and experience.
