Ken Wiegand joined SGR in 2018. He has over 30 years of airport management experience and has received numerous awards and accolades for his service throughout his career. His airport management career began in November 1985 at the Winchester Regional Airport Authority, where he enjoyed a successful 10-year term as the Airport Manager and Executive Director. He received recognition in 1989 as Virginia’s Airport Manager of the Year.

Ken was appointed Director of the Virginia Department of Aviation in 1994, serving two Virginia governors over a period of eight years. He was responsible for the allocation of more than $350 million to 69 airports in Virginia’s Air Transportation System. He received several awards for his project and program initiatives from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Association of State Aviation Officials, which he chaired in 1999-2000.

Most recently, Ken served as the Director of the McKinney National Airport in McKinney, Texas. He was credited with coordinating the largest single airport capital project in Texas Department of Transportation history, for which he received accolades from the state’s governor, members of the state legislature, and McKinney’s congressional delegation. He was recognized as Texas Airport Manager of the Year in 2008.

In addition to his outstanding airport management career, Ken occupied top leadership positions during two successful careers in the United States Army and civil aviation. During his military career, he participated in a wide range of operational, command, and staff assignments, including two combat tours in the Republic of Vietnam.

Ken is an accredited member of the American Association of Airport Executives, holds a commercial pilot license with instrument ratings in helicopter and fixed wing aircraft, and earned a Master of Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
