John C. Patterson, a dynamic and personable professional, served for 36 years in city government management in 4 states and 7 jurisdictions before joining SGR as a Senior Vice President, Executive Recruitment in 2018.
From Finance Director in South Carolina to City Administrator/Manager in South Carolina, Georgia, Utah, and Wyoming, John labored intensely to improve each different and diverse municipality through strategic planning, specializing in fiscal responsibility, downtown revitalizations, employee benefits, housing needs, infrastructure improvement, and community cohesiveness. Especially notable was his emphasis on, and ability to build positive relationships between elected officials, community members, and staff, through consistent communication.
As a Board Member and Board Chair, John served on United Way, Boy Scouts of America, Housing Coalitions, Homeless Collaboratives, and Counselings Centers for more than 35 years. He is an ICMA Credentialed City/County Manager since 2008 and has led Utah and Wyoming in their respective City Managers’ Associations. His municipal budgets and CAFRs have consistently been award winning.
John earned a B. A. Degree in Political Science (Public Administration), followed by an M.B.A. with a Finance emphasis from the University of Georgia.
In 2016 and 2017, John and his wife Cindy volunteered for 18 months in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as Public Relations representatives for their church. They enjoy their time together, whether skiing, wake surfing, hiking, biking or entertaining any of their 22 grandchildren. Their most recent bucket list accomplishment was a 5-day hike into Machu Picchu, Peru, in May of 2018.
