Steve Stoler

Steve Stoler’s extensive experience in broadcast journalism and media relations gives him a unique perspective on media training, public relations crisis communications and First Amendment auditors. He joined the City of Plano in 2013 as Director of Media Relations.  Before joining SGR as a facilitator, Steve developed several media training courses and was a highly sought after speaker at state and national conferences. He wrote a PR Crisis Communications plan for the City of Plano. His Emmy Award winning television news career spanned more than three decades at six television stations in Georgia, Nebraska, North Carolina and Texas. Steve covered almost every type of news story imaginable, from major disasters to high-profile murder trials and dramatic hostage situations.  He is one of the only journalists in Texas to witness multiple executions.  Throughout his career, Steve became an eyewitness to history.  He interviewed presidents and governors.  He stood on a ladder in a Midland, Texas backyard, when rescuers pulled toddler Jessica McClure out of a well after 52 hours.  He covered the Branch Davidian standoff near Waco, Texas.  He was one of the first reporters on the scene in West, Texas after a fertilizer plant exploded. In addition to his Emmy, Steve has won numerous awards for his media relations work, including the coveted Texas Municipal League Award of Excellence for Communications and several Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers awards for excellence in Media Relations. Steve and his wife Susan recently celebrated their 35th anniversary. They have two sons. Steve and Susan now call Panama City Beach, Florida home.
