The Deputy County Administrator I position reports to the County Administrator and will support St. Lucie County’s dedication to providing comprehensive services to meet community needs, supported by a dedicated, professional workforce. The incumbent will lead and supervise countywide operations aligned with strategic priorities, in addition to providing organizational management and strategic planning to assigned departments. They will be responsible for promoting a high-performance, accountable, and professional organizational culture. A central focus will be overseeing major projects, budgets, and policy frameworks, as well as building and maintaining strong intergovernmental and community partnerships. They will also serve as Acting County Administrator in their absence.

  • Proven integrity and discretion when handling sensitive matters
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and data-driven decision-making
  • Strong skills in organizational management, intergovernmental collaboration and public engagement
  • Financial acumen for overseeing complex budgets
  • Resourcefulness in solving organizational challenges, promoting innovation, and managing complex initiatives with competing priorities

Requirements for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or related field – Master’s degree preferred
  • 10 or more years of management experience, 7 of which were in executive or senior leadership roles preferably in local government
  • Previous experience in public works, public utilities, parks and recreation, or facilities management preferred
  • Valid Florida driver license

The hiring salary range for this position is $150,000-$180,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
